Linda Ann Peterson, born Linda Ann Jewell November 30, 1952, in Mobile Alabama,
passed away at her home in Tallahassee July 24, 2025, at age 72.
After attainment of her bachelor's degree in social work from the University of Central Florida (then FTU), she was employed by the State of Florida Department of Health for twenty years (initially with the Child Abuse Registry, later as a Medical Disability Examiner) until forced to accept medical retirement because of serious medical issues deriving from open heart surgery in 1997. Despite a multiyear struggle with these difficulties, Linda nevertheless remained strong, upbeat, and positive throughout her life. She particularly enjoyed Caribbean cruises, long distance motorcycle traveling with her husband, and sharing time with extended family both at home, at official reunions, and at the beach or similar venues. Likewise, she was able to finish her days in her own chosen manner, in her own bed and holding the hands of those she held closest: her husband, her daughter, and her longtime best friend.
She is survived by her spouse, J. Patrick Peterson, her brother Ralph E. Jewell, Jr., her sister-in-law Mary D. Jewell, five of her six children (Marianne E. Kraut, Michael A. Peterson + wife Heather W. Peterson; Moetke L. Soule, Heather M. Treger + husband Dale J. Treger, and Justin S. Montfort, being predeceased by her daughter, Megan K. Mathison); thirteen grandchildren (Lisa M. Kraut, Amanda A. Michael, Caleb T. Mathison, David P. Soule, Noah S. Holbrook, Mack J. Soule, Pace W. Peterson, Madelyn K. Treger, Davin C. Treger, Nico A. Martin, Aidan P. Martin, Abigail B. Martin, and Jude D. Martin); one great-grandson (D.Waylon Soule); one niece (Taylor C. Jewell); and numerous cousins (+ one aunt), as well as her lifelong bestie, Nancy K. Goodson.
She was also known to, as well as admired, respected, and loved by, a broad range of friends,
neighbors, and former coworkers met throughout her forty-plus year residence in Tallahassee.
