It is with great sadness that we announce that Linda Lee Travis, 76, a life-long area resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 8th, 2022 at Vassar Brothers Hospital. Born on March 3rd, 1946, in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of the late Burton A. Barrenger, Sr. and Lillian Every Barrenger. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1964. Linda started her working career with IBM during her senior year of school as part of their bridge program. She took time off to raise her two boys and then went back to work for Conklin Instruments in Pleasant Valley. She then led the accounting department at Hudson Valley Acoustical in Poughkeepsie. For the last 13 years she worked alongside her sons managing their multiple real estate companies, and as the Director of Accounting for Mid Hudson Construction Management in Poughkeepsie. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 429, in Rhinebeck NY as well a past, and first female, president of Hyde Park Little League.
Linda was always active in the community and loved jumping headfirst into any activities in which her sons would take part, whether it be Kindergarten helper, Cub Scout den mother, PTA officer, or as a board member of various sports booster committees throughout the years. Her greatest love was in working side by side with her sons where she was the steady and indispensable compass that helped to both chart the direction of her son's company, and to keep it on track. She adored her grandchildren and spent many hours watching sporting events, or any other activities in which they appeared. Linda was adored by all who knew her, whether mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, friend, or coworker. She was fun loving person and brought a light to any room she walked into, and her loss has left an irreplaceable hole in the hearts of her family and friends. Linda will be missed but not forgotten.
Linda is survived by her son Ray Travis Jr and his wife Jeana of Hyde Park; son, Scott Travis and wife Jennifer; her grandchildren: Raymond the 3rd, Logan, Aiden, Ryan and Brianna; her sister, Barbara A. DuPilka of Hyde Park; former husband Ray Travis Sr of Hyde Park and numerous nieces and nephews.
Linda was predeceased by her parents; her longtime companion Lin Snyder; brothers, Burton Barrenger, Jr. and Bernard Barrenger; and sisters, Berenice Manning and Beverly Kaiser.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 PM, Monday, November 14th, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A presentation will be made by the American Legion Auxiliary at 6:15 PM
In lieu of flowers, the Travis family respectfully request memorial donations to the National MS Society, 1000 Elmwood Avenue, Suite 900
