Linda Ice West, 79, passed away peacefully at her home in Granbury on June 10, 2024, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Linda was born March 14, 1945, to Lillian Louise Norman and Claudine Ice in Glen Rose, Texas. She attended Glen Rose schools and will be best remembered for her outstanding basketball career where she helped lead the lady Tigerettes to three regional championships and to their first ever State tournament in 1963. She still holds school records to date. Linda obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tarleton University, graduating with Honors. On April 11, 1964, Linda married Lynwood West and they had two sons, Landon and Lorne. In 1974, they moved to Granbury where they both started their teaching and coaching careers at Granbury Middle School. Linda taught English and Drama for thirty years and served as a UIL instructor and cheerleading sponsor. Her teaching philosophy was simple, "give guidance and let them learn by doing."
Linda later married Donnie Johnson on July 11, 1997, and they have lived a full, beautiful life together over the past 27 years. They loved spending time with their grandchildren and numerous friends, being active in their church and community, and spending time at the farm.
Linda was an active member of Granbury First United Methodist Church where she served on numerous committees, led the charge in burning the church note in 2018, and brought the sport of pickleball to the church. She was a lifelong athlete playing basketball, tennis, and pickleball and always enjoyed a little friendly competition. Linda spent countless hours at her breakfast nook watching birds in the backyard, especially the owl she came to consider her pet. Her faith was the foundation upon which she built and lived her life; she was a beautiful example of a Christian wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Linda was preceded in death by her first husband, Lynnwood West; her son, Lorne West; and her parents, Lewis and Louise Reynolds.
Linda is survived by her husband Donnie Johnson of Granbury; son Landon West and wife Carly of Glen Rose; grandchildren Landry, Lindsey, and Lane West; stepsons and their wives Cullen and Melissa Johnson and Bert and Julie Johnson; step-grandchildren Kennady Johnson, Kate Johnson, Ava Johnson, Jillian Kirkley, and Madeleine Kirkley.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Granbury First United Methodist Church. Family will visit with friends immediately following the service. A private family burial will follow the service.
Services are under the direction of Wiley Funeral Home.
