Lionel James Elzy, 84, of Georgetown, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024. He was born on October 9, 1939 in Louisville, Kentucky to James Elzy and Mary Orwick VanWinkle. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1959 and then worked at Ford Motor Company as a data processor from 1962-1995. Lionel was a member of Tunnel Hill Christian Church. Tennis, golf, bowling, and watching U of L sports were his past times. He always loved golfing with his best buddy, Ray Motley, at Penn Run.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Kyle Michael Elzy; brothers, James, Arthur "Art", and Leonard Elzy; and sister, Doris Mullins.
Lionel is survived by his loving wife, Karen Elzy; children, Michael (Beth) Elzy, Tony (Kristi) Elzy, Deborah Elzy, Tami Worley, and Janice Worley-Brittsan; grandchildren, Katie (Austin) Veech, Tony Elzy Jr., Emily Elzy, Christian Jolly, Tabitha Jolly, Jordan Rose Brittsan, Jacob Brittsan, and Jaxon Brittsan; 4 great-grandchildren; and sister, Reta Snyder.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am on Friday, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Edwardsville (Tunnel Hill) Cemetery in Georgetown.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lionel's memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (6100 Dutchmans Ln # 401, Louisville, KY 40205).
