Obituary of Liz Kulp
April Elizabeth Mai "Liz" Kulp, a passionate advocate for individuals with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), passed away on July 6, 2024, at the age of 38. Born June 1, 1986, Liz dedicated her life to raising awareness about FASD and supporting those affected. Diagnosed with FASD as a young teen, Liz turned her challenges into a powerful force for change. She continued to prove what was dismissed or not expected could be accomplished. God only made one Liz! She remains an exceptional loss to the world.
Liz loved life and people fiercely and was unafraid to stand up for the underdog, adopt a special needs pet, or hold a human heart in counsel. Her kindness was immense. She and Sam were deeply committed to each other and their Lord Jesus for almost 20 Years! She loved her family, friends, and animals. Whoever took time to know her grew to love her.
When you visited her home, birds greeted you in song, and dogs yapped. She was a wig painter and artist. Her work with hair was incredible, and her dreams of creating wigs for young adults and teens who lost hair in medical battles were sadly never realized.
Despite facing her struggles, Liz's resilience shone through. She celebrated 15 years of sobriety and authored "Braided Cord – Tough Times In and Out," offering hope and guidance to others facing similar challenges. Her efforts earned her recognition, including awards for her books and impactful work in the FASD community.
At just 13 years old, she co-authored her first book, "The Best I Can Be: Living with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome." This marked the beginning of her lifelong commitment to advocacy and education. Liz was a dynamic speaker, sharing her experiences at schools, conferences, and community organizations. She tirelessly promoted the "049 – Zero Alcohol for Nine Months" message, emphasizing that FASD is preventable.
Her work extended beyond writing and speaking; she developed innovative projects like "MoAngels," an inspirational teen hip-hop group producing a complete CD, and initiated Liz's Kitchen to help persons needing easy cooking for special diets.
She faced her medical challenges with bravery, and her book, New Beginnings: Better Than This, offered insight to the medical community, as did her life on her journey with all the complications initiated by alcohol exposure in the womb.
Liz's legacy lives on through her writings, her advocacy, and the countless lives she touched. She demonstrated that with understanding, support, and determination, individuals with FASD can and do make significant contributions to society.
As we remember Liz Kulp, let us take up her challenge: to create a world where FASD is fully understood and prevented, and those affected receive the support they need. Let her life's work inspire us to continue educating, advocating, and supporting individuals and families impacted by FASD. In Liz's memory, let us strive to make her vision of a world free from FASD a reality and to be the best we can be.
Liz is survived by her parents, Karl and Jodee Kulp, and Forever Fiance, Sam Guerrido.

Jodee, my deepest sympathies and love to you in this very sad time. I will never forget the time you so graciously spoke to me on the phone about some personal things in my own family. What an amazing mother you were to Liz, what an encouragement you were to me, and still are. My prayers and love go out to you. We read Liz' books and followed her on social media. We will never forget this precious girl. Lisa Coutras, Franklin, TN

We also used Liz's book "The Best I Can Be" with my 6 adult children to help them understand how FASD may affect who they are. Liz had a light that couldn't be extinguished since she will shine brightly in heaven.

We have 3 now young adults with FASDs and we used Liz's books to help explain and encourage our kids to reach for the stars as they were growing up. Liz passed way too soon but her work will remain as a testament to her strength and determination. Condolences to Jodee, Karl, and their family.

My daughter, who has three cousins with FASD, thought Liz's book, The Best That I Can Be was perfect for teens. She thought Liz was a good writer who had great insight. Liz will be missed. She did so much for families who lived with FASD. Thank you, Liz...with all our love, the Obas.
