Lloyd M. Blackwell passed away on March 14, 2025, at 76 years old in Aspermont, Texas. Services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Tankersley Funeral Home 807 Columbia St. Stamford, TX with Rev. Pete Parker officiating assisted by Anthony Bearden. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Stamford. The family will be accepting friends and family at the funeral home on Monday, March 17th from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Lloyd Monroe Blackwell was born in Stamford, TX to J. M. and Emma (Nauert) Blackwell on March 27, 1948. He spent his childhood on a farm in the Plainview community in Haskell County, Texas. In 1966 Lloyd graduated from Stamford High School prior to enrolling in Texas Tech where he earned a Business Degree in 1970. Lloyd and Veta Parker were united in marriage on July 22, 1989 in Weinert, TX. With this union Lloyd gained a daughter, Melissa, and a son Randall.
As a family man, Lloyd took an interest in the lives of his loved ones. He chose to live a life of meaningful acts of love and service as a very considerate person who always checked on everyone's wellbeing and the working order of their cars. He was especially generous when Christmas shopping with the kids, not only did he buy Christmas gifts for them but also a lot of "just because they liked something gifts". He was a kind, considerate grandparent, taking an active role in the lives of the grandchildren teaching and sharing advice on life skills, but in return he expected them to earn good grades and do well in life. He loved to spend time watching football, rodeos, and buying and selling stocks.
Lloyd was never scared to take on new opportunities and did everything with honesty and integrity. He worked for 16 years with the Production Credit Association and served on the PCA board. In 1998 Lloyd attend SMU to earn a degree in banking prior to working in banks in Seminole, Sunray and Borger. Lloyd eventually returned to Capital Farm Credit and completed an additional eight years of service for them in Lamesa, TX before retiring from the financial world. Along with his financial career he maintained his love for agriculture, farming, and raising cattle. Lloyd also embarked in the retail world as a co-owner of the Red Wing Shoe Store with his wife. Lloyd had an uncanny ability to remember details and people which served him well both in business and his personal life. He made many friends throughout his career and could always recall their names.
Lloyd is survived by and will be missed by his loving wife of 35 years, Veta Blackwell of Stamford, TX; his children, Melissa Fox of Stamford, TX, Randall Alexander of Brazoria, TX.; forever cherished and remembered by his six grandchildren, Ashley Bell and husband Jacob, Branson Lindsey and fiancé Kristen Clark, Brinley Bowen, Ronald Alexander, Coen Alexander and Grady Alexander; two great grandchildren, Cooper and Maddie Bell, siblings. Lanell Blackwell of Arlington, TX and Larry Blackwell of Stamford, TX. His memory will be cherished by his extended family and friends.
Lloyd was predeceased by his father, J. M., his mother, Emma, and his brother Claude Balckwell.
Memorials may be sent in remembrance of Lloyd to the Stamford Food Bank, VIP Meals on Wheels, or the T.C.R. Oldtimers Association.
