Mr. Lloyd Nelson “Tootsie” Hooker, age 89 of Meadows of Dan, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Patrick County on November 11, 1935, to the late Millard and Vera Marshall Hooker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lessie Smart; and two brothers, Paul Hooker and Junior Hooker. Tootsie was a dedicated school bus driver and mechanic at the school bus garage, serving the Patrick County Public School System for over 30 years. He was a hard worker who wasn’t satisfied unless he was piddling on something. He and his brother opened Hooker Brothers Repair Shop where they repaired many lawnmowers and small engines. He was strong in his faith and a member of Vesta Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was very talented, especially when it came to music. He could play just about any instrument he tried; however, he often played the harmonica. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving brother, caring uncle, cousin, friend, and neighbor.
Left to cherish the memories of Tootsie are his wife of 63 years, Jeannette Ilene West Hooker; one sister, Thelma Puckett (Martin) of Meadows of Dan; adoring nieces/caregivers, Joyce Green, Loran Davison, Israel Shelor, Audrey Meeks, Charisse Hall, and Clara Thorman; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Hooker will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Vesta Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastors Ronald Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the John Millard Hooker Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart has been entrusted with the arrangements and online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
