Lloyd Warner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metcalf Mortuary - St. George on Oct. 26, 2022.
St. George, UT – Lloyd Claude Warner was born in Delta, Utah in the winter of 1931 to Angie Dearden and Claude Elden Warner. It was in the depth of the depression, so jobs were hard to come by. Lloyd grew up moving all over the state with his parents, older sister, Naoma and younger brother, Howard. They always returned to Delta which Lloyd considered his hometown. Lloyd excelled in sports, running track, and playing basketball and football.
After graduation from Delta High School, he began college at Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City (which in time evolved into Southern Utah University). He studied agriculture and played football. It was while recovering from a football injury he was cared for by a cute young cheerleader named Luana Nelson. They fell in love and were married in the Manti Temple in 1951. Together they began a journey that ultimately led to a Ph.D. in Agronomy at the University of Minnesota while raising six sons and a daughter. After completing post-doctorate training at South Dakota State University, he was employed by Elanco agricultural products which at that time was a division of Eli Lilly and Company. During his career with Elanco, Lloyd and his family began a journey that moved them all over the country.
Lloyd was an active and committed member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings including serving as a Bishop in Plano, Texas. Later after retirement Lloyd and Luana served a mission in Pakistan which was one of the adventures of his life.
Lloyd loved golf and chose St. George as his place to retire because of its wonderful climate and the opportunities it afforded him to golf. He joined the Bloomington Country Club and served for a time as the President. One of the greatest regrets of his life was when his health no longer allowed him to play golf.
Lloyd died on October 24, 2022, surrounded by loving children, and attended by his wife of seventy-one years, Luana Nelson Warner.
He was preceded in death by two sons: Aaron Roice, and Danial Lloyd; daughter-in-law, Katherine Heil Warner; brother, Howard Elden Warner; and his sister, Naoma Braithwaite. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Luana Nelson Warner; his sons: Claude Alan Warner, Ivan Lloyd Warner (Chell Warner), Eric Nelson Warner (Diane Warner), Michael Lloyd Warner (Gina Warner), Forrest Lloyd Warner (Amy Taggart Warner), Dean Lloyd Warner (Christina Michelle Warner); and daughter, Renee Warner Miner (Eric F Miner). Lloyd is also survived by thirty-eight grandchildren, sixty-seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.in the Bloomington 7th Ward Chapel, 3519 Manzanita Road, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and on Saturday, prior to services, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the church. Dear Warner family, I am so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of our families camping together at Redfish Lake, and backpacking in the Wind Rivers, among other activities. I always admired your Dad. Please accept my condolences.
