Lois Ann Bower

Lois Ann Bower, aged 82 from Tallahassee, Florida, died April 2 (Palm Sunday) after a lengthy illness.
A Tallahassee resident for the past 45 years, Lois Ann was born and raised in upstate New York, the daughter of Robert and Alice Frank. After graduating as valedictorian of her high school class, she attended SUNY Albany where she studied the Classics and was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. Following graduation, Lois Ann married her high school sweetheart and began a career as a school teacher, and soon thereafter began a family. In 1978 she accompanied her husband and young family to Tallahassee. After her children had grown, Lois Ann re-entered the teaching profession becoming the Latin teacher at Lincoln High School where she excelled. She was a beloved teacher and a valued colleague at Lincoln High as well as a mentor to educators throughout the state for twenty-five years. Among her many accolades as an educator, was named Florida's Latin teacher of the Year and also pastPresident of the Florida Classical Association.
As a woman of strong faith, Lois Ann was a devout Christian and an active member of the United Methodist Church serving in a multitude of volunteer and lay leader positions over many years. Always impeccably dressed, she loved spending time with family, her many friends, and her beloved grandchildren. Whether in the garden, out walking, or relaxing on her porch, Lois Ann preferred spending her time outdoors. She was an avid FSU baseball and football fan, and also enjoyed reading and travel.
Lois Ann is survived by Philip Bower, her husband of 62 years, sons Sean Bower (Diane) and Kevin Bower (Leeanne), and daughter Robin Schwartz (Jeff). She is also survived by her sister and lifelong companion Linda Bianco, and her grandchildren Riley and Ryan Bower, and Gavin and Noah Schwartz.
A service celebrating Lois Ann's life is being planned; Kelly Barber of Bevis Funeral Home (85-385-2193 or www.bevisfh.com) is assisting the family with arrangements.
