Lois Jean Golden, a vibrant soul and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home in Royal Oak, Michigan, on October 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving husband and family. She was 93 years old.
Born on August 7, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, to William and Elizabeth Smith, Lois grew up on the east side of Detroit and graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1950. She found joy in dancing and music-a love that remained with her throughout her life. Whether swaying to a favorite tune or clapping along to a rhythm, Lois's spirit truly came alive when music filled the room.
She was a proud resident of Royal Oak for 70 years, where she built a beautiful life rooted in family, friendship, and faith. On August 25, 1951, Lois married the love of her life, Joseph Golden, in Detroit. Together, they shared 74 wonderful years of marriage filled with laughter, resilience, and unwavering devotion.
Lois worked as a salesperson at Sears in Oakland Mall and was a lifelong Mary Kay consultant, forming cherished relationships with her customers, many of whom became close friends. Her gracious, gentle presence made others feel heard, valued, and loved.
A woman of deep faith, Lois was a longtime member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Clawson and the Knights of Columbus Women's Auxiliary. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, a Daily Mass cantor and lector for many years, and sang joyfully in the church choir. Always eager to give of herself, she volunteered to call bingo at the Clawson Community Center and often lent a helping hand in her community. Her faith was quiet yet powerful, reflected in her kindness, grace, and compassion for others.
Lois loved spending time with her family playing games-Skip-Bo, Yahtzee, Euchre, and Bingo were among her favorites. These simple moments, surrounded by laughter and joy, were where she felt most at home.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph Golden, and her loving children: Marsha Golden (Patrick Hammerle), Brenda Golden (Sharon Ramey), Joe Golden (Jeannie), Debra Bringman (Glen), Thomas Golden (Andi), and Christopher Golden (Kimmy). She was a proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored. Lois is also survived by her sister, Betty Cambell; her brother, David Smith; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will remember her warmth, smile, and joyful spirit.
Lois was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Donna Golden-Amy, in 2004, and by her brothers Bill, Tom, and Craig Smith.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gramer Funeral Home, 705 North Main Street, Clawson, MI 48017 (located on Livernois between 14 and 15 Mile Roads).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 521 E. 14 Mile Road, Clawson, MI 48017. Interment will follow at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley, Michigan.
Lois Jean Golden leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and joy. She danced through life with grace, lit every room with her smile, and lived each day with a heart full of gratitude. Her memory will continue to move through the lives of all who loved her-like a favorite song that never fades.
