With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lois Goodman, who left this world on October 10, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas. Born on May 22, 1940, in Emporia, Kansas and spent most of her childhood in Barclay, Kansas. Lois dedicated her life to family, community, and her passions, creating a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.

Lois built a commendable career as a bookkeeper for several local businesses and spent many years in retail, where her genuine spirit and kindness touched the lives of many. Her education at Osage City High School and Clarks Business School laid the foundation for her career, but it was her devotion to learning and her love for reading that defined her.

A mosaic of interests and hobbies colored Lois's life beyond her professional endeavors. She had a remarkable green thumb and found joy in tending to her garden. Her creativity flourished in crochet and knitting, producing numerous cherished items that will remind her family of her warmth and talent. Lois was also a passionate collector of angels and an avid reader who found solace in the beauty of poetry.

Community service was essential to Lois; she was actively involved at the First United Methodist Church and the Pilot Club in Topeka. She was admired not just for her contributions but also for being a wonderful neighbor, always extending her care and compassion to those around her.

Lois leaves behind a loving family who will carry forward her spirit. Her son, Robert (Mary Anne) Hatch and her daughters, Leona Hatch (Meigs), Janet (Mitchell) Hatch Johnson and Sheryl Hatch Kreischer, each hold close the lessons of love and strength their mother imparted. She found delight in her grandchildren — William Born, Ameesah Hatch, Cameron Sweet, Elijah Johnson, Brynn Johnson, Kyn Johnson, Jordan Hatch, Rose Hatch, Hannah Kreischer, and Rowan Kreischer and she will echo in their memories, just as her love will continue to guide them. Lois was also blessed with great-grandchild, Carter Hatch with whom she had an especially close bond and great-grandchildren, Lily and Nick Born.

In her absence, the family also honors those who have passed before her, including her late husband, Bobbie Goodman; her parents, Erwin and Ruth Larson; sister, Jean Van Vleck; son, James Hatch; grandchild, Angel Sue Hatch. She was preceded in death by former husbands Donald Bloomquist, from this union were born two sons and Oscar Hatch, who adopted both sons and to this union came three daughters. They cherish the memories shared and the legacy of love that connects them all.

A Funeral Service to honor Lois Goodman will take place on October 24, 2025, at 10:30 AM at the Topeka First United Methodist Church, 600 SW Topeka Blvd. Topeka, Kansas 66608. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Arvonia Cemetery near Reading, Kansas. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate the extraordinary life of a woman whose kindness, resilience, and nurturing spirit will forever be a part of our lives.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Topeka First United Methodist Church or to Alzheimer's Association, 8001 Conser Suite 240, Overland Park, KS 66204.
