Lois Elaine Atkinson Smith-Acerra, 82, of Manteo, NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at her home after a brief illness.
Born in Neptune, NJ on March 29, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Lenora Brand Atkinson and Alfred Atkinson.
She lived in NJ most of her life, then moved to Arizona when her husband retired. After he passed away, she moved to the Outer Banks. "Elaine" was an avid golfer and loved spending time at the beach. She found great joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was blessed in her final days with a visit from her grandson Ryan Nicholas and his family Cynthia, Brooks, and Summer Elaine. Especially sweet was her visit from grandson Matthew Valoff, with whom she shared a special relationship, and his son Maverick. The family is grateful for the services provided by Adoration Hospice who were available 24/7, and for the outpouring of love and support from the Liberty Christian Fellowship family.
She is survived by two daughters, Sheryl Moore and Kim LaFountaine (Joe); a son, Laird Douglas Smith; four stepdaughters, Debbie Nicholas (Damon), Leslie Acerra (Steve), Robin Valoff (Jeff), and Dana Cottrell (Bob); thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a sister, Barbara Faulhaber (Fred).
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Domenick Acerra.
The family will hold a private celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Adoration Hospice, PO Box 1329, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948.
