Lonnie Eugene Buttrum, 79, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:42 am July 8, 2023 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born July 10, 1943 in Centralia, Illinois to the late Alonzo J. Buttrum and Estelleah Pickett Buttrum. Lonnie married Neva June (Buchanan) Buttrum on January 19, 1963 in Mount Vernon.
Lonnie is survived by his loving wife of 60 years; children, Bob Buttrum and wife, Kristen of Bluford, Tommy Buttrum and wife, Angela of Woodlawn; grandchildren, Nicole Whitlow and husband, Justin of McLeansboro, Illinois, Amie Martin and husband, Jason of Opdyke, Blake Buttrum and wife, Samantha of Bluford, Nolan, Hazleah and Juneva Buttrum all of Woodlawn; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Pamela Sue Moyer and husband, Carl of Mount Vernon and Michael Shawn Buttrum of Marion; favorite nephew, Bob Garrison and wife, Crystal and niece, Joan Trotter and husband, Calvin.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo J. and Estelleah Buttrum.
Lonnie worked at Vernois Stove Foundry in Mount Vernon and later as a Coal Miner. He was a member of Casey Avenue Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Lonnie was a long time member of the Goshen Trail Long Rifle Club and Mount Vernon Sportsmans Club (Miller Lake). He really enjoyed shooting his black powder rifle and fishing. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Casey Avenue Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the church with Pastor Jerry Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in Lonnie's honor to Casey Avenue Baptist Church.
