Lonnie Francis Cowles, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, who cared for him continuously for the last weeks of his life.
He was born on August 17, 1938, in Louisville, KY to the late Walter William Cowles and Mary Alice Dickerson Cowles.
A window cleaner all of his life, he opened All-Brite Window Cleaning in 1966 and turned it into a successful and respected family run business. Like his father, retirement was not in his blood, and he continued working with his sons through the spring of 2023.
He was a kind and quiet man with a selfless spirit and generous heart. He was a silent giver to anyone in need. He had a love of horse racing which he shared with family and friends. One of his greatest joys was standing in the Winners Circle with his favorite horse, Citi Point. More than anything though was his love for his family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Lou Carter Cowles; and grandson, Scott Anthony Sublett.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Sublett; sons, Tony Cowles (Lisa) and Lonnie W. Cowles (Kelly); grandchildren, Anthony, Jessica and Whitney Cowles, Rachel Sweet; great grandchildren, Lena Sublett and Aubrey Sweet.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. John Varga and the staff at One MD for the care of their dad.
His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home 3800 Bardstown Road with entombment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
