Lonnie Lee Hearn, surrounded by his family, passed away from complications from dementia at his home in Elkton, Maryland, on July 24, 2025at the age of 80.
Born on July 31, 1944, in Salisbury, Maryland, Lonnie was the son of Grover and Frances Hearn of Laurel, Delaware. Lonnie attended Laurel High School, where he met and married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia Lynn Elliott, a love that would last for more than 70 years. After graduation, Lonnie moved to Chicago, Illinois, to attend DeVry University, where he graduated top of his class with a certificate in electronics. He would go on to become the Director of Media Services at the University of Delaware, retiring after 43 years.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his son, Eric; his father, Grover; his mother, Frances; his sister, Iris; his brother, Terry; and His Aunt, Helen Ruth.
Lonnie leaves behind Patricia Hearn, the mother of his children; his daughter, Lisa; his son, Lonnie Michael; and his daughter, Elizabeth (Don). Grandchildren, Taylor; (Ben) Damian; (Taylor) Daniel and Sarah, (Ryan) Tristan, Deja, Jada, Alexis, and Stephen. Great-grandchildren, Amethyst and Arlo. His brother Gary and his sister-in-laws Linda and Lucinda, along with several nieces and nephews.
Lonnie's family would also like to acknowledge Dennis Williams for his enduring friendship and support during the best and worst of times.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025. Viewing will be from 10:00-11:00 am, the service will begin at 11:00 am at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N Broad St., Middletown, DE 19709. Burial will follow in the Hickory Grove Cemetery, 428 Port Penn Rd. Middletown, DE 19709.
