Lorene D. Horning

Lorene D. Horning, 90, of McAlisterville, passed away at 12:53 PM on Friday, March 14, 2025 at her residence.
Born on August 12, 1934, in Richfield, Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Emory E. and Dora L. (Snyder) Varner. On August 1, 1953, she married her late husband, Donald M. Horning, with whom she was blessed to share over 50 years of marriage before his passing on December 3, 2003.
She is survived by her daughters, Tammy L. Casey and her husband Michael of Millerstown and Tiffany A. Renninger and her husband J. Michael of Mifflintown; one daughter in law, Angela Horning of Richfield; four grandchildren, Amisha Boone and her husband Daniel, Brandon Boone and his wife Aleesha, Devin Renninger and his wife Haley, and Maxwell Young and his wife Sarah; and three great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Troy D. Horning in 2017; and, later in life, her companion, Joel Kunkel.
Mrs. Horning was a graduate of Freeburg High School and was a member of the Richfield Community Church (formerly known as the Richfield United Methodist Church), the Richfield Women's Club where she held different executive positions; the Rural Letter Carrier Association Auxiliary, and also helped out with the Richfield Girl Scouts. After graduation from high school, she was a Secretary at Westinghouse; then was employed as a Banker Teller at the Richfield Bank; next, was Church Secretary for the Richfield United Methodist Church; and finally was an Avon Representative for over 10 years before her retirement.
Lorene enjoyed yard sailing, flea markets, auctions, reading, and in later life, dancing.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 21, 2025 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with Pastor Brian Myfelt officiating Interment will follow in Richfield Union Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home.
