Lorie Kaye McIntosh was born August 19, 1976, in Dearborn, Michigan, at the former Oakwood Hospital. She attended and graduated from Gabriel Richard Catholic High School in Riverview, MI with the class of 1994. She went on to become a certified paralegal and then went on to receive her bachelor's in accounting. Lorie's journey took a new turn when she married Scott Burnham, and together they were blessed with the gift of four children: Jenna, Jack, Joel, and Jade. After parting ways with Scott, Lorie's path led her to someone new, bringing the arrival of two more children into her life: Winter and Roman. Lorie's daughter, Jenna, is enlisted in the U.S. Navy and no doubt Lorie is happy that Jenna was able to come home to say goodbye to her mom.
Lorie lived a life filled with love, strength, hard work, and resilience for her children. There were many challenges she faced after her diagnosis. The first two years of her treatments went well for her physically. The last six months were proving to be more difficult for her, the last three months she was living with severe back pain, and then the last week was extremely painful for her right up until the end. But Lorie was a fighter in every sense of the word. Juggling three jobs to support her family while battling a serious illness showcased her determination and dedication. Regardless of the immense pain and physical struggles of the cancer she endured, she continued to maintain all three jobs.
As a substitute teacher, Lorie touched the lives of many and was loved, appreciated and respected by her Eppler Junior High family. Her role as a crossing guard, at the corner of her house, also provided her with financial support, even in the midst of her own struggles.
Working part-time as a kitchen aid at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Lorie demonstrated her caring nature by serving patients with kindness and compassion. When her health began to decline, she faced the difficult decision of resigning. However, fate intervened, presenting her with a new opportunity in the hospital kitchen that allowed her to continue working while managing her health.
Lorie's dedication to her family was solid, and her love for her children, home, and cats shone through in everything she did. Despite being a self-proclaimed homebody, she cherished the annual vacations spent on the water, up north in Michigan, with her family.
Lorie's warm and welcoming nature endeared her to everyone she met. Her kind spirit and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on all who knew her and that resulted in her being loved by so many. As her family hears stories, daily, from those whose lives she touched, they are comforted by the impact she had on those around her.
Lorie Kaye McIntosh, age 47, of Utica, Michigan, passed away, after a long battle of metastatic colon cancer on Wednesday June 19, 2024. In addition to her passing, she is preceded in death by her grandma Marguerite DeWaelsche; grandma Doris McIntosh, grandfather Bob McIntosh, aunts: June Neph and Janet DiBiase and an uncle, Glen McIntosh.
Left to cherish her memory, she leaves: six children: Jenna, Jack, Joel, Jade, Winter and Roman; her mother: Karen (Fred) DeWaelsche-Gamber; her father: Steven (Diane) McIntosh. Also supporting Lorie in her journey are aunts: Kay (Jim); Judy, two uncles Leonard, Donald (Darlene); a niece: Angelique; and four cousins: Karen, Krissy, Danny and Katelyn. This entire family was very generous and supportive which Lorie was so grateful for.
Family and Friends will gather on Friday June 28, 2024, from 4-8pm and a Eulogy service at 6pm at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors, 8459 Hall Road (3 Blks E. of Van Dyke) Utica, Michigan.
Lorie was an organ donor, and she gave someone the gift of looking at the world through her beautiful blue eyes. Per Lorie's wishes, cremation will follow. Please share a memory with her family at www.sullivanfuneraldirectors.com

I met Lorie casually, while on my way to pick up my children from school. She was very friendly and it was nice to make her acquaintance. May family and friends find comfort in memories and gentle days ahead.

Lorie was my niece and from the time she was born, she had the most wonderful spirit and joy and beauty about her. She was definitely the apple of her Grandma De's eye and their closeness eased much of the loneliness mom experienced. Lorie had such tremendous strength of mind & spirit. When it was time to let go, Mom, Dad, Auntie Jan & Auntie June were there to welcome her to the next plane of life. Godspeed Lorie-Lou. We so love you and you will be greatly missed. Aunt Kay
