My heart goes out to you, dear Deanna and Rita, on the loss of Loris, your beloved husband and father. It was my good fortune to have studied composition with him during his first three years at Baldwin Wallace University's Conservatory of Music. His fervent instructional style was a significant & enduring part of my education as not only a composer but also a teacher. The intensity of his musical zeal is equally accompanied in my recollections by the tempering power of his frequent bright-eyed expressions of humor. Oh, how Dr. Chobanian (accent on the last syllable, of course) loved to laugh! In this sad week I send you my condolences, for he is now gone. Yet because we remember him, his spirit continues long.
