Lorraine Katherine (Daul) Calaway, 99, De Pere, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Christmas Eve, December 24, 2022. The daughter of Matthew and Marie (Carney) Daul was born on March 24, 1923.
Lorraine was the oldest of five children, and grew up on the family farm in Freedom. She graduated from Freedom High School and went on to attend business school. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a bookkeeper at Geenen General Store.
On September 6, 1945, she married John F. Calaway Jr. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom. Together, Lorraine and John raised five children on a dairy farm in West De Pere. She was known for her ability to feed all the hired help on the farm on a moment's notice.
Lorraine was a member of the St. Boniface Christian Mothers, the Old Glory Homemakers and the De Pere Community Center. She also enjoyed doing needle work and playing cards with John and their neighbors.
She is survived by her children, Thomas (Sandra) Calaway, Susan (Steven) Rotter, Mary Therese (Paul T.) Willems, Jackie (Steve) Baeten; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Betty Jane Smits, Matt (Mary Ann) Daul; and siblings-in-law Dave (Mary) Calaway and Betty Manders.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Matthew and Marie; son, Gerald; siblings, Florian "Bud" (Rosie) Daul and Donald Daul; and brother-in-law, Norval Smits; as well as John's siblings.
Family and friends may visit at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, 1307 Lourdes Avenue, De Pere, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. James Baraniak, O.Praem. officiating. Burial will follow at Lawrence Cady Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be made to causes dear to Lorraine.
The Calaway family would like to extend thanks to Unity Hospice. A special thank you to all the staff at Sage Meadows Assisted Living for nearly a decade of compassionate care for our mother.
