Obituary of Lorraine Graffigna

Lorraine Graffigna (née Maggio), longtime Westfield resident, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 31, 2025. She was 76 years old.

Born on April 28, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Emmanuel and Celesta Maggio (nee Amen), Lorraine was raised in the vibrant heart of Brooklyn. In 1970, she moved to New Jersey, first settling in Union before making her lifelong home in Westfield in 1972 where she lovingly raised her family and became a cherished part of the community.

Lorriane was a devoted educator, beginning her teaching career at Connecticut Farms Elementary School in Union where she taught kindergarten, first, and second grades. Her nurturing spirit and creative energy made a lasting impression on countless young students. Later, Lorraine chose to devote herself fully to her family, becoming a stay-at-home mother and homemaker, a role she embraced with love, strength, and grace.

She had a passion for life's simple and beautiful pleasures. Lorraine found joy in gardening, especially her beloved Gerber daisies, and treasured long, peaceful days at the beach. She had a deep appreciation for the arts, from Broadway shows to all genres of music, with an eclectic record collection that reflected her vibrant personality. A seasoned traveler, Lorraine adored visiting Europe and Italy and Paris had a special place in her heart.

A meticulous homemaker and a woman of great presence, Lorraine lived life with fierce independence and heartfelt conviction. She was strong-willed, outspoken, and deeply compassionate, never afraid to advocate for herself or others. Her life was guided by the little mantras and mottos she lived by, and she left behind a legacy of courage, authenticity, and deep love.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Maggio; and her son-in-law, Jeffrey Dean Maca. She is survived by her loving companion of 14 years, Joe Marcuse; her devoted children, son David Graffigna and his wife Jennifer and daughter Loren Graffigna; her cherished grandchildren Noelle and Anthony; her faithful dog Luigi; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her warmth, wit, and unwavering spirit.

Lorraine's memory will live on in every flower she tended, every song that brought her joy, and in the hearts of all those who were lucky enough to know her.

Funeral services for Lorraine are being held privately for her family.
