Lorraine Robbins Obituary Lorraine Katherine (Shankey) Robbins
Lorraine Katherine Robbins passed away peacefully at the Golden Horizens Home in Sandstone, MN on February 2nd, 2025. She was 94 years old.
Lorraine Katherine Shankey was born on January 31, 1931, in Greenvale, Dakota County, MN to John Martin Shankey and Exzilda Marie (Carpenter) Shankey. She was the youngest daughter in a family of 12 children. She later moved to Northfield, MN, and records show in 1950 she worked as a maid at a farm there. She was married twice. Her first marriage was to Ed Chandler, and with him she had a son, Michael Edward Chandler in 1956. After her divorce from Ed, she married Walter Robbins in 1958 and had two sons with him, Rodney Walter Robbins in 1960 and Jeffrey Lee Robbins in 1964. The family lived in Hinckley, MN. Lorraine and Walter divorced in 1995.
Lorraine worked mostly at home, but did work at a few restaurants throughout the years, including the Royal Inn in Sandstone. But her greatest love was caring for children; her kids and her grandkids, and many, MANY adopted grandchildren. All the kids loved how she would play for hours with them. She was quite the card shark and loved playing cards and dice games including Skipbo and Farkle. She loved company and would always lend a hand to anyone in need. She enjoyed gambling with family and friends and rarely passed by a thrift store without stopping in. She loved Elvis with a passion, and enjoyed collecting his memorabilia. She was known for her decorating, especially at Christmastime, which she usually began prior to Halloween. Her home was never without a collection of some sortowls, cows, ducks, birds, etc.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands Walter and Ed, and all of her siblingsMartin, Ethel, Lillian, Martha, Gelhart, Leonard, Edna, Gladys, Warren, Chester, and Maurice. She is survived by her children; Michael (Tammy) Chandler, Rodney (Sheila) Robbins, and Jeffrey (Maggie) Robbins; grandchildren Chad (Jamie) Robbins, Leaha Robbins, Niles Robbins, Austin Robbins, and Jacob Robbins; great grandchildren Kaden Robbins and Brady Robbins; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Lorraine, please visit our Tree Store.
