Louellen Virginia Carter

Memorial gathering for Louellen Carter will be held from 2:00pm to 4:00pm July 9, 2023 in the chapel of Griffin Funeral Home of West Monroe.
Louellen Virginia Carter was a Christmas gift, born on 12/25/1934 in Marthaville, La. She graduated from Pleasant HIll High School. She and her husband, Julian "J.D." Carter, married and moved to Shreveport in 1952. They later moved to Monroe, La in 1962.
She was a member of Christian Life Church for 35 years and Pentecotstals of the Twin Cities for 25 years. Virginia worked diligently in many capacities including Graphic Packaging in the 1960's and Monroe City Schools in the 1970's. In 1980, she and her husband opened Carter's Best Way Grocery in Haynesville, La. They later opened a location in Coushatta and Minden. After her husband's passing, she returned to West Monroe and worked for WalMart for 13 years. Virginia loved to try new recipes (especially sweets), work in her yard, and travel.
Those left to cherish Virginia's memory are: Darrell Lynn Carter, William Scott Carter (Polly), Russell Lane Carter and Julie Carter Pleasant.
Her grandchildren are Wendy Lively, Danielle Kennedy, Jason Carter, Justin Carter, Jordan Pleasant and Austin Pleasant. She is survived by 12 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father, James J. Chester, her mother, Willie Lou Chester, Brother: Laverne Chester, Virgil Chester, J. W. Chester, and Olin Cheste; daughter in law, Lydia Carter.
