Louise Harby Mathis, age 95, of McDonough, GA went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 27, 2025, having lived a long and blessed life. Louise was born in Greenville, FL to Charles St. Clair Harby and Honora Brooks Harby. She grew up in the small town of Boston, GA, where she made lifelong friends and had great family memories.
Louise attended college in Americus, at Georgia Southwestern University. It is here where she met her future husband John W. Mathis, Jr. and they married in 1950. Louise and John lived in Decatur, GA for over 35 years where they raised their family and made many more lifelong friends until John was transferred to Jacksonville, FL in 1986. Louise and John enjoyed their new beach life and made many more new friends during this time.
Louises husband passed away in 1993, and shortly thereafter she returned to Boston, GA where she was able to reunite with childhood friends and enjoyed living in the town where she grew up. Louise lived in Boston for over 20 years before moving to McDonough, GA to live with her son and his family.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, and her brother James Harby. Louise is survived by daughter Marie (Robert) Nashed of Falls Church, VA; daughter Elaine (Michael) Gooch of St. Augustine, FL; son John W. Mathis, III (Elizabeth) of McDonough, GA; 8 grandchildren: Stephen (Sarah) Nashed; Laura Nashed; Alison (Steven) Lepore; Brian (Wendy) Gooch; Jeff Gooch; John (Heather) Mathis IV; Sarah (Matt) Palmer; and Rachel (Jonathan) Edwards; as well as 13 great grandchildren; Slater, Scarlett, Avery, Leighton, Lincoln, Sara, Johnny, Haley, Cooper, Emma, Hazel, Maci and Elizabeth (arriving soon).
The Celebration of Life Service for Louise will be held in the Chapel of Cannon and Cleveland Funeral Home, 2580 GA-42, McDonough, GA on Friday, March 7, 2025.
