Lucie Jolene (Droddy) Taylor, 92
Services for Lucie Jolene Taylor, 92, of Groveton, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, in
the Groveton Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow in the Groveton
Cemetery.
Jolene was a lifelong East Texan whose devotion to family, faith, and community
endured across more than nine decades, died on Sept. 6 in a Livingston hospital after a
brief illness.
Born on March 23, 1933, in Glendale, Texas, she was the daughter of Linnie and Louie
C. Droddy. She grew up in the piney woods of Trinity County, where she cultivated the
values of resilience and steadfast faith that would guide her life.
In June 1953, she married Harvey Reagan Taylor of Groveton. Their marriage lasted 50
years until his death in 2003. Together they raised three sons, and during Harvey's
retirement the couple moved to Arizona, where he ministered to three congregations
with Jolene at his side. Later they settled in Tyler, Texas, before Jolene returned to
Groveton after his passing.
A devout Christian and longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Groveton, Jolene
is remembered for her unwavering faith, loyalty to family, and devotion to community.
She was also an avid sports fan, following Baylor and Texas A&M University athletics
along with the Houston Texans and Astros. She never missed a game played by her
sons, and in later years took joy in watching and learning about her great-
grandchildren's school and sporting activities.
After the 2020 passing of her granddaughter, Danielle Marie Taylor, Jolene played a
significant role in caring for and helping to raise her beloved great-grandchildren. She
also mourned the loss of her oldest grandchild, Leah Louise Taylor, in 2021. Her
brothers, Edwin and Kenneth, and her sister, Laverne (Droddy) French, also preceded
her in death.
She is survived by her sons: Larry and his wife, Carol, of Graham, Texas; Keith and his
wife, Regina, of Allen, Texas; and Mark and his wife, Sharon, of Groveton. She is also
survived by three grandchildren, Anna Taylor, Andrew Taylor, and Emily Taylor Kramer;
three great-grandchildren, Carter, Callie, and Colton Cox of Groveton; five step-
grandchildren, Jessica Rising; and Corey, Chelsey, Caroline, and John Cheairs; and a
nephew, Arthur French of Anderson, Texas.
