It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Lucio Oquendo on March 23, 2025, at home, surrounded by those who loved him. He passed away peacefully, just as he wished, in the comfort of his home.
Lucio was born on December 6, 1933, in Puerto Rico to Rosalinda Gonzalez and Camilo Oquendo. As a child, he loved climbing trees and picking fruit. From a young age, he enjoyed cooking with his mother, a passion that remained with him throughout his life.
Lucio spent his early years married to Laura Marquez Jaramillo, with whom he had three children: Marcos, Enrique, and Delilah. After becoming a widower, he later married Maria Lopez, the love of his life, with whom he spent the rest of his years. Together, they raised two children, Eduardo and Jasmine.
Lucio had a deep love for God and expressed his faith through his kindness, generosity, and devotion to his family. He found joy in cooking for others as a way of showing love and care. Whether he was in the kitchen preparing meals, tending to his garden, or out fishing, he embraced life’s simple pleasures. He also loved the excitement of visiting the casino and enjoyed watching baseball—though he was known for muting commercials every chance he got.
Lucio was preceded in death by his parents, Rosalinda and Camilo. He is survived by his wife, Maria; his children, Marcos, Enrique, Delilah, Eduardo, and Jasmine; his grandchildren, Delilah, Laura, Rosalia, Enrique, Marcos, and Lauren; and his great-grandchildren, Mateo and Evelynn. His love, kindness, and generosity will be remembered by all who knew him.
Lucio Oquendo’s life was one filled with love, faith, and simple joys. His warmth and devotion to those he cared for will live on in the hearts of everyone who was blessed to know him.
A service will be held on April 3, 2025, at St. Joseph Parish (1717 El Monte Ave. Sacramento, CA 95815), where friends and family can gather to celebrate his life.
