Lucy Ann (Adamcik) Janda, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 15, 1942, in La Grange, Texas, to Adolph and Henrietta (Muras) Adamcik.
Lucy graduated from Bishop Forest High School in Schulenburg, Texas, in 1960. After graduation, she worked at La Grange State Bank before marrying the love of her life, Anthony "Tony" Janda, on June 5, 1965. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Houston, where Lucy worked at First City National Bank in Downtown until the birth of her first child.
Lucy devoted herself to raising their four children-Michelle, Melissa, Chris, and Brandon-creating a home filled with love and laughter. She also cared for teachers' children for 10 years, touching many of their lives and forming lifelong friendships. Later, she poured her love into caring for and enjoying her grandchildren, who especially loved baking and cooking alongside her. Affectionately known as Grammy, she delighted in sharing her love, joy, and time with her family.
She cherished family traditions such as Sunday dinners and get-togethers, summer family trips, and attending her grandchildren's activities. Lucy loved dancing polkas and waltzes, listening to Czech music, cooking, sewing, and having a good time. Sewing was a lifelong passion, and she lovingly crafted clothes for her daughters and granddaughters, always ready to mend something for anyone in need. Proud of her Czech heritage, she joyfully shared its traditions and culture with her family. A woman strong in her faith, Lucy lived out her beliefs daily and lovingly passed them on, leaving a legacy rooted in love, devotion, and trust in God.
Lucy was a devoted member of the Catholic Daughters and, together with Tony, attended St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Houston, Texas, for 55 years. She was also a dedicated member of KJZT, a Catholic organization.
Lucy and Tony shared 60 beautiful years of marriage, building a life together centered on love, family, and faith. She will always be remembered for her gentle spirit, her kindness, her hospitality, and her devotion to her family. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her children and grandchildren, who will carry forward her legacy of love.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Henrietta Adamcik; and her brothers and sisters: Charlie, Martha Povse, Leon, Edwin, Adolph, Helen Janacek, Lawrence, Jerry, Lillian Barnes, John, Ben, and Florence Hrncir.
She is survived by her loving husband, Anthony; her children-daughter Michelle and son-in-law Greg Allen, daughter Melissa and son-in-law Craig Pohlmeyer, son Chris Janda and daughter-in-law Gini, and son Brandon Janda and daughter-in-law Courtney. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren-Jared, Grayson, and Logan Allen; Kennedy Pohlmeyer Burke and her husband Kraig; Kamryn and Ross Pohlmeyer; Lauren and Emily Janda; and Ava, Lily, and Chloe Janda. She leaves behind her brother, Frank Adamcik, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations. Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 126 Plum Church Rd., Plum, Texas, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2025. Burial will follow at Hostyn Catholic Cemetery, 936 FM 2436, La Grange, TX.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Building Fund.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations, 208 W. Pearl St., La Grange, Texas. Family and friends can view and sign the guestbook online at www.lagrangefunerals.com.
