Lucy Ann Smith, 70, died unexpectedly at her home in North Easton, Massachusetts, on Saturday, February 18, 2023, due to what appears to be an unexpected medical condition.
Born on April 10, 1952, in Nashua, New Hampshire, Lucy Ann graduated high school from Mt. St. Mary Seminary, continued her education at Stonehill College, and obtained her Master's Degree from Bridgewater State University.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Marjorie Smith, and her sister, Cynthia. She is survived by her sister, Jennifer Smith and her partner Ron Stevens, and her niece, Chelsea Smith and her husband, Daniel Ginivan, aunts and cousins, and a vast circle of friends.
Lucy taught 4th grade at and retired from Howard School in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and to this day, students and their parents are still telling tales of just how impactful Lucy was in their childrens' lives, even decades later. As one former student reminisced, she was concerned not just with their grades, but about the student themselves, shaping their futures and the people they would become. The amazing amount of circles of friends surrounding her, with many close relationships that withstood time from her college days, to making new friends every step of the way through life, is also a testament to the type of person she was – very likable and social, her friendships were true and lasting.
Her passions ran deep, from her immense collection of anything frog-related, to reading what seems like every book ever published and providing books reviews for them, to her love of movies and music (and infatuation with Jon Bon Jovi), dedication to Stonehill College, and it's women sports (basketball particularly), and especially her love of traveling the world after her retirement, with the goal of hitting every country.
From her weekly, decade-long, movie dates, holidays with college best friends, recurring group lunches, summer days by the pool with her friends, multiple book groups, exercise groups, neighbors, teachers, students, Stonehill Alumni, college friends and travel companions, her circle of Security friends who worked by her side at every concert she could attend, and so very many more, all that were such an important part of her life right up to the day she passed, prove her zest for life and how true she was to those she cared for. It is very evident that she will be sorely missed, but we know she would impart this on all of you: take life by the reigns, travel, experience all you can, be brave, step out of your comfort zone, because this is proof that there is no guarantee of tomorrow. In the end, Lucy truly lived by the words of Jon Bon Jovi: "It's my life, it's now or never. I ain't gonna live forever. I just want to live while I'm alive." Know that she loved you all, and think of her often.
All are invited to attend Lucy Ann's wake at Kane Funeral Home, 605 Washington Street Rte.138, Easton, MA 02375 on February 24, 2023 from 4:00-8:00pm and a Funeral Mass at the Chapel of Mary (on Stonehill College campus) on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, Lucy Ann would have asked for donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Stonehill Col-lege General Scholarship Fund.

I worked at the Ames Free Library in Easton and then the Stoughton Public Library. I knew Lucy as a library patron over those many years, and she would always rent films. We talked a lot about music, as I attended lots of concerts and would occasionally see her working at one of them. She was always a pleasure to chat with and she will be missed by all the library staff at both library locations. We send our condolences to the family.

Oh I was so sad to hear of Lucy´s passing I just learned of it today. I was with her just over a week ago in our Drums Alive class and she was, as always, so fun and so supportive of the group. I loved reading about her in the beautifully written obituary, as I´ve only known Lucy for a few months but that is exactly how I would have imagined her being. She was so smart, very funny, and just a joy to be around. I´m so sorry to her family and her friends. Rest easy, Lucy

My heartfelt sympathy and prayers are with all who share the sadness of Lucy's passing. Your difficult loss may seem like lonely raindrops that fall from sad gray skies, when sunny days ahead seem unimaginable. But, know that Lucy's love for you, and your love for her, will force the sun to shine again one day. A day when tears turn into the sparkle of a smile. Many blessings to all.
With love,

Lucy, or Miss Smith as my brothers and I still refer to her as, was one of just a few teachers who chose reach & change & have a lifelong impact certain kids that others left behind. What a wonderful legacy of a life well lived. Rest in peace...

We were so sorry and shocked to hear about Lucy's passing. We worked with Lucy at the Pavilion and Orpheum for many years. She was a always a pleasure to work with. She recommended many TV shows for us to watch. I remember Lucy giving me one of her frogs to take to Ireland so she could get pics of the frog there. We always admired how she enjoyed herself in her retirement. Our condolences to Lucy's family. She will be greatly missed. So sorry we will be out of town for the services.
