Luis Antonio Allende, 76, of Lake City, left this world on Thursday, December 7, 2023.
He was born on August 2, 1947, in Manati, Puerto Rico, to the late Baltrzar Aviles and Petra Torres Allende. Growing up in a large family of ten siblings, Luis took on responsibilities early in life, working on local farms and later moving to Florida at the age of sixteen, driven by the desire to provide for his mother back in Puerto Rico. His journey eventually led him to Erie, where he spent several years as a grape trimmer in vineyards across the county. He later transitioned into factory work. Dedicating twenty-five years as a machine operator in Erie before finding his start in aluminum mold making at Perez Patterns. He ended his hard-working career at Fairview Evergreen Nursery, where he contributed to projects all over the US.
Luis was known for being a jack of all trades, earning a reputation as a MacGyver/handyman. He was an outdoorsman with a passion for hunting and fishing, as well as enjoying camping with family. Luis was widely known for his cooking, where he delighted family and friends with his cooking skills, showcasing a diverse range from traditional Puerto Rican dishes to pig roasts and Thanksgiving turkeys. Luis also had a green thumb, cultivating his gardens and nurturing his beloved hibiscus flowers and ivys at his home.
He is preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, one sister, and an infant daughter.
Luis will be deeply missed by his wife of 33 years, Sherry Allende; brother Angel Sanchez; daughters Miriam and Teresa Aviles, Christy Stewart, Julie Kaylor, and Trisha Daniels (Thompson); son Skylar Kaylor; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations and memorials may be made to the Luis Allende Memorial Fund under the care of Edder Funeral Home Inc.
