Luis "Pumpkin" Cruz Rivera, 49, a Highlands resident, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at Lowell General Hospital and was surrounded by his family.

He was the longtime companion of Melissa Vitorino of Lowell.

Born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico on May 31, 1976, he was the son of Angel Cruz Sr. and Carmen Rivera of Lowell who survive him. He was educated in Lowell Public Schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School.

He started working as a custodian in the Lowell School System, later becoming a Security Guard at the Career Academy of Lowell for the past 6 years.

Pumpkin loved his family and enjoyed coaching his kids in baseball and softball in the Lowell neighborhood leagues. He enjoyed all sports, especially playing golf and corn hole, camping, and traveling. He was a member of the Lowell Boys Club during his youth. He cherished his grandchildren and enjoyed holidays with family where he was always the life of the party. He loved cookouts and going out to Sunday breakfast at Rosco's.

In addition to his mother Carmen and his father Angel, Pumpkin is survived by his companion Melissa Vitorino of Lowell; his two children, Hailee Cruz of Lowell and Alex Cruz and his wife Jocylyn Felis of Lowell, two brothers Angel and his wife Anny Cruz of Methuen, and Ramon Cruz of Franklin NH; grandchildren Aveyana and Aleyana both of Lowell, nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND LUIS'S CALLING HOURS ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2026, FROM 9:30 AM UNTIL 11:30 AM AT THE FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL. LUIS'S FUNERAL SERVICE WILL FOLLOW at 11:45 AM AND HIS BURIAL WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE WESTLAWN II CEMETERY IN LOWELL.
