Luke Daniel McLaughlin, a beloved father, son, brother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024 at the age of 44. He was born on January 4,1980 to Roseanne and Thomas McLaughlin of Hornby, NY. Luke was the sixth child and grew up surrounded by siblings and cousins while playing and working in the fresh country air.
A graduate from Corning-Painted Post West High School, he followed in his father's and brothers' footsteps by joining the Carpenters Union Local 277. Luke worked for Wilcox Building Specialties for several years and was most recently employed by Welliver.
Luke's greatest joy was found in his two children, Colin (16) and Abbey (14). He took great pride in their academic and sports accomplishments as well as their development into young adults of strong character. Luke loved barbecues and hosting events where everyone was welcomed with a full plate and a smile. He enjoyed books and movies and loved to share his recommendations with all. He was a devoted New York Jets fan, therefore, he was often disappointed on game days.
Luke was an exceptional craftsman; many of our homes benefited from his hard work. From sheetrock to painting, roofs to porches, his quality work and attention to detail will remain in the community for decades to come.
Predeceased by his father, Thomas, and brother, Jared, Luke's legacy is carried forward by his children, Colin and Abbey; his mother, Roseanne; his brothers: Raymond (Amy), Nathan (Heather), Holland (Melanie), Matthew (Sarah), Adam (May-Lin), and Paul (Tara); his sisters: Anna McLaughlin and Teresa (Dave) Cecchini; and all of his nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Luke. He will also be sadly missed by every one of his cousins, friends, and neighbors (who became family).
Calling hours will be held at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First St., Corning, NY on Thursday, August 29, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to support Luke's children as they navigate life without him.
Luke's family has entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
