Lula Prince Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Jan. 28, 2026.
Lula Bell Prince, 94, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, at The Oaks. She was born on January 14, 1932, in Toomsuba, Mississippi, to John and Anna Mariah (Lofton) Jones. In 1951, she relocated to Battle Creek with her beloved husband, Robert D. Prince, Sr., where they built a life and family together.

After dedicating several years as a stay-at-home mother, Lula pursued her passion for beauty by attending Wright Beauty Academy. There, she formed a lifelong friendship with Margaret Armstrong. In 1969, she opened Prince's Beauty Box, which grew into a successful family business that thrived for 52 years. Her love for serving her clients and uplifting others through her work was evident to all who knew her.

Even greater than her love for the beauty industry was her devotion to teaching Bible truths as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Lula truly enjoyed speaking with others about the Bible and was a faithful, active member of the Central Congregation in Battle Creek. She was a dedicated entrepreneur and found joy in cooking, sewing, studying the Bible, and spending cherished time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Lula was preceded in death by the love of her life, Robert D. Prince, Sr., who passed away on April 24, 2012, after 62 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Mariah Jones; brothers, Josiah Jones, Nathaneal Jones, John Daniel Jones; and sisters, Rannie Mae Jones, and Pauline Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory with her four children, Robert D. Prince, Jr. (Christine Prince), Lilia M. Prince, Caroline J. Prince, and Patricia A. Prince, all of Battle Creek. She is also survived by her sisters, Johnnie Kate McDuffie (Lenon McDuffie) of Sumter, South Carolina, and Elizabeth (Jones) Lee (Ronald Lee) of Toledo, Ohio.

Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, James A. Cannon III, Chrystal A. (Cannon) Smith (James "Smitty" Smith), Melissa S. Cannon; great-grandchildren, Jalin Cannon, James E. Cannon, Jazimien A. (Cannon) Clark (Calvin C. Clark), Jaziel R. Pugh, Lyric M. Cannon of Arizona, Kyle D. Cannon, Imir Smith, Phillip Robinson Jr., Dyzmen Robinson (Alexa Stevenson Robinson), and Jaurae Robinson, all of Battle Creek; and her great-great-grandchildren, Gustavo R. Cannon, Mesiah A. Clark, Calvin C. Clark, Cali Clark, Lai'la Cannon, LaMiyah Cannon, Lauryn Cannon, Phillip Robinson III, Theo Robinson, and Kaizer Cannon.

She also leaves behind a host of loving nieces and nephews, as well as another cherished lifelong friend, MaryLu Dube.

A memorial service celebrating Lula's life will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 5561 Morgan Road, Battle Creek, MI 49037. The service will be presided over by Deric Walker.

My mother, Joyce White, viewed Lu as a confidential friend and had countless enjoyable conversations at the "Beauty Box", along with many other women for years. She kept my mother“s hair beautiful. I have fond memories of the entertaining conversations at the "Beauty Box".

Lu always welcomed friends with her beautiful smile at the salon, in the grocery stores, and at the Kingdom Hall.

Prince family:
I look forward to seeing Lu and my mother embracing each other again in paradise.

At this moment:
Where your heart is now
Where your heart will be

Isa 65:14:
"But you will cry out because of the pain of heart And you will wail because of a broken spirit.

Look! My own servant will shout joyfully because of the good condition of the heart,"

The resurrection hope always must remain real!!
