Lydia Lucille Matthews

Lydia Lucille Matthews, age 74, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025 at her home in Crosby, Texas surrounded by her family. Lydia was born August 1, 1950 in Houston, Texas to W. T. (Raby) and Clara Donaldson. She was a 1968 graduate of Furr High School. She married Frank Arnold Matthews on September 24, 1968 in Houston, Texas. She married a Marine and raised three sons who grew up and joined the Marine Corps. Lydia loved being a wife, a mother, and a homemaker. This was truly her life's work, and she did it well. Once the boys were older she worked for the Crosby school district for approximately 20 years. Lydia enjoyed spending time with her good friends, crafting, refurbishing old furniture, spending time outside, rescuing stray animals, and taking trips. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Frank Arnold Matthews; her sons Brenton Matt (Heather) Matthews of Friendswood, Clint Jason Matthews of Crosby, and Joshua Joel (Kristie) Matthews of Hankamer; grandchildren Victoria Elisabeth (Cory) Shrum of Splendora, Ashley Nichole Hunter of Friendswood, Conner Jason Matthews of Livingston, Colby Walker (Mackenzie) Matthews of Hankamer, and Caley Marie Matthews attending Sam Houston University in Huntsville; great-grandchildren Nico Robert Burton Gosnell, Arthur Taylor Cole Gosnell, and Rhett Walker Matthews. And her brother Wilford Theodore "Teddy" (Rosemarie) Donaldson and children, and sister Carla Donaldson (Larry) Maness. She is proceeded in death by her parents.
Family and friends are invited to Sterling-White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Road, Highlands, Texas 77562, Friday June 13, 2025. Visitation from 11 am - 1 pm, Memorial Service at 1 pm, Interment at 2 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life Gathering.
