She was born in Plain City, OH on December 28, 1928 to the late Samuel B. and Dinah (Kurtz) Frey. On September 30, 1980, she married Julius Schmitt who preceded her in death on March 23, 1993.
Ellen worked as a nurse most of her life having been employed at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, OH as an LPN. She enjoyed her nursing career. Ellen moved to Florida in 2003 and lived there until 2015 when she moved to Goshen, IN to Greencroft Assisted Living. She moved to Walnut Hills Nursing Home in Walnut Creek, OH in August of 2023.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 7 sisters and 5 brothers. Ellen was the last living member of her family. She will be missed by her nieces andnephews and many great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 1:30 pm at East Union Mennonite Church, 10678 E. Old Lincoln Way, Orrville, OH 44667. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton is handling the arrangements.
