PERRY, GA -
One of Christ's dearest angels, Lydia Cuellar Zammit was called home on Friday, December 29, 2023, at the age of 86. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. in the Chapel at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Graveside Services will also be on Tuesday, January 2, at 12:30 p.m. in Perry Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband with Father Eric Filmer and Deacon Jim Roberge officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Alzheimer's Association, 3040 Riverside Drive, Macon, GA 31210.
Lydia was born in Brownsville, Texas, on August 25, 1937, to the late Encarnacion Cuellar and the late Clotilde Grande Manzano Cuellar. A mother of six, she moved her family to Perry with her husband who had been transferred to Robins Air Force Base. In the following years, the Zammits had three more children, making Lydia a mother of nine. Always a homemaker, Lydia worked hard to create a loving and encouraging environment in which to raise their children and eventually, their grandchildren. A lady with a servant's heart, she worked for many years with the Kellwood Company, Holiday Inn Restaurant, and Quincy's Restaurant, all in Perry, where every coworker became a lifelong friend to Lydia. A devout founding member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, she enjoyed celebrating mass regularly with her church family. One of her greatest joys in her life was spending time with her grandchildren.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; her loving and devoted husband of forty-seven years, Maurice Zammit, Sr.; her son, Kenny Zammit; her siblings, Tony Cuellar, Raymond Cuellar, and Junior Cuellar; and a grandson, Marco Antonio Zammit.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Lydia are her children, Kurt Zammit (Sherry Lynn) of Perry, Deborah Zammit of Perry; Mark Zammit (Sherri) of Douglasville, Paul Zammit (Debra) of Dayton, Ohio, Maurice Zammit (Tatiana) of Centerville, Matthew Zammit (Marisol) of Detroit, Michigan, Erich Zammit (Jill) of Perry, and Edmund Zammit (Jodi) of Perry; over twenty grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; her sisters, Racquel Barthen, Mary Lou Cuellar; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
