Lyle Edward Confer 96 was born December 12, 1927, in Oil City, Pennsylvania to Boston L and Lula Chambers Confer and passed away March 16, 2024, at his home in Corinth, TX with family and friends at his bedside.
Lyle was the 4th of 11 children and grew up in Venus, PA on the family farm with the responsibilities of most farm children. Lyle was a man of unwavering loyalty, enduring love, courageous spirit, and humble heart. We might add he had a stomach like none other. His passion for food allowed him to eat and eat and never seem to get full. Lyle was an avid ice skater and accordion player secrets that most did not know about him.
In September 1950, Lyles life was changed when he was drafted into the United States Army and left working the family farm and the Manion Steel Barrel Company. The Army stationed him as military police serving Fort Detrik in Maryland, Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, and Fort McClellan in Alabama. Lyle was honorably discharged in September 1952 and served as reservist until 1956.
Upon his return to civilian life, Lyle returned to Manion Steel until 1962 when he married Betty Mae Shorts. The new Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Confer moved to Woodbury, TN to begin their lives and start a family. In his professional life, Lyle was a Manufacturing Engineer Inspector at AVCO in Nashville, TN, where he dedicated his skills to the field of Aero Dynamics until he retired in 1991. He played a crucial role in building airplane wings and was always so proud to speak the words: I built the wings that my son, Terry, flies on.
Lyle found contentment at home supporting his family through hard days of work and relaxed by working in the 2-acre garden. His hands, which once fashioned wings of steel, tenderly nurtured plants which not only fed his family but neighbors and friends as well. He loved flowers, roses and was proud to have them adorn his home as well others. His love for music was undeniable from accordion playing to singing in the church choir. The hymns he sang as a Music Leader for the First Church of the Nazarene, as well as The First Free Methodist Church (where he served as an Associate Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, and Choir Member) exemplified to others the teachings of his faith.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Boston and Lula Confer, his grandparents, Isaiah and Margaret Confer, Ross and Myrtle Chambers, his wife, Betty Mae Confer, his siblings, 2 unnamed, Dorothy, Bertha, Wade, Elinor, Geraldine, Lucille, and Donald, and his life-long friend and companion, Helen Bechtel.
Lyle's legacy of love and devotion is carried forward by his sons, Terry Trevor Confer (James Fletcher) of Corinth, TX, Roger Confer of Murfreesboro, TN, daughter-in-law, Debbie Confer of Murfreesboro, TN, his cherished grandchildren, Kayla Confer of Murfreesboro, TN and Caleb Fletcher (Justin Ingram) of Carrollton, TX. His memory will also live on through his loving sister, Dolores Dee Gayette of Franklin, PA, and his dear Aunt, Violet Vi Morrison of Senica, PA his cousin, Beverly Zipful of Senica, PA, numerous nephews and nieces, and other family members from the McClendon/Sharpe families in Georgia, the Cawthorn/Sanchez/Thompson/Bechtel Families in Tennessee, and the Fletcher family in Texas.
Lyle Edward Confers life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and service. His devotion to his family, his passion for his work, and his commitment to his faith have left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have crossed his path. Though family and friends all mourn the loss of Lyle, they all loved him deeply and are daily reminded with Gods grace that Death without Grief is Life without Love.
