Lyle "Bruce" Marshall, 79, of St. Johns, Michigan, passed away on November 4, 2024, after fighting a severe infection for several months.
Bruce was the youngest of 14 children, born at home in Winn, Michigan to Bond and Mabel Marshall on November 29, 1944. Bruce graduated from Shepherd HS in 1962. An accomplished 4-year football linebacker, Bruce earned All-State honorable mention and was offered to attend U of M as a walk on.
A smooth-talking farm-boy working at a pickling plant in Edmore then met a fine-looking girl from McBride and after a brief courtship, Bruce married Sandra Kay Raymond on December 14, 1963.
A talented man who worked hard all his life for his family, Bruce enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, trapping, winning at playing cards, and especially spending time at his cabin on Little Pike Lake in the Upper Peninsula and growing a huge garden to share with his many friends. Bruce retired 25 years ago, and was known throughout the community as 'Smiley' the UPS man, back when he was the only delivery driver for most of Clinton County.
Bruce will be sorely missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Sandy, and his children, Stacy (Jeff) Brandes, Mercer, PA; Chris(Tammy) Marshall, St. Johns, MI; Ben Marshall, Corunna, MI; Adam (Steph) Marshall, McMillian, MI; his grandchildren, Michael (Whitney) Marshall, Shelby Township, MI; Gennifer Brandes, Culpeper, VA; Gillian Brandes, Stuart's Draft, VA; Matthew Marshall, St. Johns, MI; Gabrielle Rochefort, Boston, MA; David Rochefort, Manistique, MI; and Derek Marshall, Grand Ledge, MI. Bruce is also survived by 3 brothers, Frank, Blanchard, MI; George, Blanchard, MI; Lawrence (Nancy), Vestaberg, MI; and 2 sisters Genevieve Swindlehurst, MI; Virginia Lane, IL.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 515 E. Sturgis Street, St. Johns on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 1 PM. Pastor Jim Pearl officiating. Friends may gather at the church on Saturday from 11 AM until the time of the service.
The family requests no flowers or gifts. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church.
