Lyle J. McCarter passed away peacefully in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 16th, 2025. He was 85 years old. He was born to Charles and Irene McCarter on October 15th, 1940 in Broken Bow, Nebraska. Throughout his life, he worked as a police officer, a machinist and a truck driver. He cared deeply, was full of wisdom, had a quick-witted sense of humor and had unmeasurable resilience. He was passionate about country music and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an incredibly talented musician and spent a large part of his life entertaining others with his smooth voice and charismatic presence. Lyle and his late wife, Shelia, shared a love for music and played many years together in the Sundowners band. He was recognized for his musical talent by being inducted into the Nebraska Country Music Hall of Fame in 2018. Preceded in death by parents, wife Shelia and brothers Lloyd, Jimmy, Vern, Russ and sister Virginia. Survived by sons Lloyd (LaSchan) McCarter, Michael, Kelly (Beth) McCarter and daughters Susan (John) Robinson and Rhonda (Tim) Hood; grandchildren Payton, Ethan, Austin, Erin, Eve, Kyle (Sarah), Kealy, Krista, Kory (Michaela), Jessie (Desiree), Jenna (Derek), Kyle (Aspen), Zackary, Samuel, Marie, Hannah (Cody), Abbigail along with 18 great grandchildren. Special mention to the Anderson family for their continued love and support. A viewing with family present will by held on October 24th, 2025 from 10am to 12pm at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenberg, Nebraska. Graveside service to follow at 1:00pm at Gaslin Cemetery in Brady, Nebraska. We are so grateful for the years we had with Lyle and will carry him in our hearts forever.
