Lyn Braz of Marshfield, MA went to her eternal rest peacefully in her favorite place, her home, on Monday June 24, 2024 at the age of 62. Lyn was born in New Bedford, MA, where she lived with her mom for 17 years. When Lyn's father passed away before her second birthday, Lyn's mother Hilda lovingly embraced her role as both mother and father, showing Lyn the true meaning of unconditional love. Hilda Braz was an iron fist in a velvet glove. Always guiding Lyn to be strong, giving and kind. She encouraged Lyn's love of learning and her passion for life. In living her faith and nurturing that same faith in Lyn, Hilda Braz gave Lyn a gift that she would cherish, all the days of her life.
Lyn began college at Northeastern University in 1980. There she made lifelong friends and delighted in every moment of her college experience. Recognized for her academic excellence, leadership and character, Lyn was invited to become a member of the accounting honor society, Beta Alpha Psi, which she proudly accepted. After graduating in 1985 with a BS in Accounting and Finance, Lyn worked for companies where she was able to grow professionally, deepen her love of the finance world, and fuel her desire for more education. In the late 90's and while employed as a controller in a start-up company, she pursued a graduate degree, attending classes nights and weekends, to earn her MBA from Northeastern in 2002.
Lyn worked in accounting and finance for over 40 years. She held many positions across multiple industries, acquiring knowledge and skills to build her own business. In 2010 Lyn successfully launched Open Coast Financial Services, a consulting company where she provided Part-Time CFO services to mid-sized companies. It soon became clear to all who knew Lyn, that this is what she was born to do. Lyn loved meeting new people, she was an amazing listener, naturally inquisitive, and always offered thoughtful, meaningful insight. It's no wonder she became fast friends with so many of her associates.
Lyn was a devout Catholic and found great strength in her spiritual beliefs. Her love for dogs and dog rescue brought Lyn and her sweet, beautiful dog Colby together in 2020. Lyn's compassionate nature was evident in her generous contributions to the MSPCA, St Jude's Hospital for Children, and many other charities. Her philanthropic work left a lasting impact on these organizations. Lyn served on the Board of the Plymouth Salvation Army, was a member of ProVisors Boston, and was a member of the CFO Leadership Council.
Lyn's adventurous spirit led her to explore the world and embrace new experiences. Lyn created lasting memories for herself and her friends as they traveled together near and far: from cruises to Croatia and the Danube, elephant rescues in Thailand, trips to Aruba, Italy, Portugal, England, France, Denmark, Spain, and Africa to local beach days and visits to museums and concerts.
Lyn, may your reunion in heaven with your mother and father bring you eternal joy and lasting peace.
