Lyn Stoyer passed away at Westerville Senior Living in Westerville, Ohio on April 3, 2025.
Lyn is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Stoyer, son Mark Stoyer and his wife Nancy, son Dale Stoyer and his wife Janice, three grandchildren, Adam Stoyer and his wife Solana, Nicholas Stoyer, and Renee Stoyer, one great grandchild, Alaya Rae Stoyer, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. His parents Wayne Stoyer and Nellie NcNamee, and brother Lloyd Stoyer and his wife Faye preceded him in death.
Lyn was born in Youngstown, Ohio and grew up in Poland, Ohio, was a member of Lewis Center United Methodist Church, was a Boy Scout, graduated from Poland Seminary High School and The Ohio State University with BA and MA degrees in Radio and Television Broadcasting, and was trained as an Army Medic. He served in the US Army and Army Reserves from 1959 to 1965 and was honorably discharged as a SSGT November 12, 1965.
Lyn entered the broadcasting field in radio sales at WSAI in Cincinnati, moved to WCKY and then was hired by Avco Broadcasting in sales at WLW-T television, moved to national sales in Chicago, and promoted to local sales manager at WLW-C in Columbus, Ohio. Hired by Blackhawk Broadcasting in Iowa, he was VP Sales at KWWL in Waterloo, Iowa and then promoted to General Manager of KTIV in Sioux City, Iowa where he rebuilt the NBC affiliate including new building and all new equipment.
Lyn's management career included Station Manager at WBEN-TV Buffalo, NY; Executive VP and General Manager of WGRZ-TV Buffalo, NY; General Manager of WLKY-TV Louisville, Kentucky; assignments in Concord, New Hampshire; Cincinnati, Ohio; Rockford, Illinois and eventually back to the Columbus, Ohio area with WSFJ-TV, WMNI radio, The Delaware Gazette and WRFD radio. After retirement from broadcasting, he spent the last few years as a full time Development Coordinator with Marion Goodwill Industries, focused on fund development for Delaware and Union Counties in Ohio. He also drove disabled persons to/from work for Alpha Group, enabling some who otherwise wouldn't be able to work to do so.
A memorial commitment service will take place in the chapel at the mausoleum at Kingwood Memorial Park at 8230 Columbus Pike in Lewis Center, Ohio just north of Columbus, Ohio on US Route 23 at 2 pm on Monday, April 14, 2025.
Please no flowers – in lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Cure Alzheimer's Fund (100% of donations go to research!) (curealz.org) or The Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) for research into Alzheimer's Disease.
