Funeral services for Lynell (Nell) Reed Stephens will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Blanchard - St Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, La. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Methodist Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA. The family will receive friends form 5:00pm until 8:00pm on July 14, 2025 at Blanchard - St Denis Funeral Home. Nell Stephens, 92 years of age, passed away on July 6, 2025 in Hot Springs, AR. She was born August 29, 1932 in Iota, LA.
Nell was raised on a rice farm in Iota, LA. She left Iota to go to college in Natchitoches. While there she met a wonderful young man named E.J. Stephens, Jr. They married in 1951 and had six children. She began driving a school bus in 1970 and drove until her retirement. She loved cooking meals for her family and often had a large pot of gumbo on the stove. Nell was often on the receiving end of teasing from EJ. Nell was a happy and positive person, who never met a stranger. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Stanley Keith Stephens and wife Cindy of Houston, TX, John Alan Stephens and wife Donna of Round Rock, TX, and Craig Duane Stephens and wife Sharon of Natchitoches, LA; her daughter, Cynthia Lynn Moreland and husband Roger of Hot Springs, AR; her seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; and one sister Jackie Viator of Covington, LA.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, E.J. Stephens Jr; her parents, Lester Reed and Pearl Fontenot Reed; her son Terry G. Stephens; her daughter Brenda F. Jones; her grandson Garrett Jones; sisters, Joy Gravois, Charlotte Hewitt, Debra Reed; and brother, Norman Reed.
Those honored to be pallbearers will be Keith Stephens, Alan Stephens, Joseph Stephens, Roger Moreland, Preston Stephens and Matthew Stephens.
In our hearts, she is not gone, she just changed her address.
