Lynn Ellen Lucas, age 81 residing in
Dover, New Hampshire, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 20, 2024. Her caring spirit is carried on by extended family and friends from every walk of life.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jan Alan Lucas; Children: David Lucas, Nancy (Lucas) Bacon; Grandchildren: Marissa Lucas, Noel Bacon & Joy Bacon; Brother: Hank Brautigam. Her eldest daughter Jennifer passed less than three weeks after her Mom.
Lynn Lucas was born on August 20,1943 in Tacoma, Washington. She was a varsity cheerleader for Irvington High School in New Jersey. There she began a lifetime spirit of optimism and encouragement for members of her family as well as the variety of persons who interacted with her throughout her life. Lynn completed her education degree at Montclair State Teachers College, New Jersey, teaching home economics (family living, baking, sewing and home decoration) throughout her professional career. As a woman of faith and the heart of the Lucas family, Lynn shaped her children and grandchildren through her ability to create a feeling of home that reached beyond the walls of any house. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from our Mom who lived every day generously sharing her appreciation for the gift of each new day while spending over half of her lifetime as a cancer survivor. Lynn was recognized for her genuine smile which proved to be contagious! She used it to keep her ongoing challenges with cancer very private. But she generously shared her personal appreciation for her doctors and every medical care provider; particularly the ones who attended to the most basic wellness services (like the cleaning staff members)! Lynn kept her mind sharp with daily NY crossword puzzles, countless sudoku, and by coming up with many questions when presented by answers on Jeopardy. She always had a good book, knitting/sewing project, and her iPad next to her favorite chair to keep up with her children and grandchildren. Lynn had a love for quilting that went beyond her passion for creating them. She made countless quilts to celebrate new life, bring comfort in healing, and support the interests of loved ones.
Lynn was an avid baseball fan and always rooted for the New York Mets. Her favorite athletic pastime, when her children were young, was to participate in pick-up volleyball games with a few of her friends at a local school gym. She passed down her love of athletics to all three of her grandchildren and was always their biggest fan. Lynn adored her grandchildren and loved to participate in their schooling and hobbies. Many culinary lessons were learned and passed down through Lynn and her cooking and baking. So many fond memories were made at her daughter Jen's shore home. Lynn taught her family how to share comfort and joy by sharing meals with her neighbors and community in New Jersey and New Hampshire. Her children and grandchildren will continue to share her recipes in love and celebration of the love shared by Lynn in the Lucas family. Next spring the family will gather in New Hampshire/Maine to invite local friends and medical community staff to join in a celebration of Lynn's life.
