Madeleine Winder

Our beloved Madeleine Godbe Tuft Winder passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025 surrounded by three generations of her loving family.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 31, 1932 to Helen Godbe Tuft and Arthur Leland Tuft, Madeleine lived in Holladay, Utah her entire life. Madeleine graduated from Granite High School and attended Utah State and the University of Utah.
On September 3, 1953, Madeleine married the love of her life, Phillip Cannon Winder. They were happily married for over 57 years.
Every week, Madeleine volunteered for a number of local organizations including the Salt Lake City Library, the MS Society of Utah, and the American Red Cross. In 1994, Madeleine received the Clyde W. Simpson Award from the Salt Lake City Area Chapter of the American Red Cross for "Distinguished Volunteer Service."
Madeleine was a truly joyous person and never hesitated to share that joy with others. She was a consummate hostess and filled her calendar with parties, dinners, and fun. At her heart, however, lay a fierce devotion to others, especially her family. She provided full-time, at-home care for her mother for 14 years-an achievement she said she was most proud of. Additionally, she offered boundless emotional support and love to her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her many beloved pets. She welcomed people without judgement into her home and treated them like family.
Preceded in death by her husband Phillip, parents, and siblings Grant Tuft (Audrey), Shirley Blain (Frank), Arthur "Tommy" Leland Tuft Jr., and Helen Miller. Survived by her children Paul, Roger, Mary Whittaker (Shawn), Brent (Monica), and Emily Allen (Scott), fifteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to honor Madeleine will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary (4760 S. State Street, Murray). A visiting hour will begin at noon, followed by the service in the chapel at 1 p.m.
