Madeline Chieffo, 93, of Hermitage, passed away Thursday morning, December 8, 2022, in her home.
Ms. Chieffo was born on July 12, 1929, in Farrell, a daughter of the late Salvatore and Victoria (Russo) Chieffo. She attended Farrell School District and was a 1947 graduate. Following high school, she attended the former Christian H. Buhl Hospital, school of nursing, and was employed at the hospital for six years.
In 1956, she moved to St. Louis, MO, and in 1961 to Encino, CA. While in Encino, she worked as a registered nurse at the Encino and Tarzana Hospital. Madeline began as a staff nurse and was promoted to head nurse/ nurse coordinator and eventually was the case manager at both hospitals. Throughout her career, she was honored and was the recipient of several awards.
A devout Catholic, Madeline was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening. She took great pride in having beautiful flower gardens at her home. She also loved going to performances at the Hollywood Bowl, an outdoor amphitheater.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Paula Chieffo, of Hermitage; two nephews, Christopher Chieffo and his wife Debbie, of CO, and Alex Kasich, of NJ; and many great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Madeline was preceded in death by a sister, Jennie Kasich; a brother, Lawrence "Larry" Chieffo, Sr.; and two nephews, Lawrence "Larry" Chieffo, Jr. and John Kasich.
Her sister-in-law and caregiver, Paula, would like to thank her other caregivers, Amanda, Jennifer, Karen, Tammi and the many others who took wonderful care of Madeline during her illness.
Calling hour will be 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service Monday (12/12/2022) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, in the funeral home, with Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, officiating.
Interment: St. Anthony's Cemetery, Hermitage.
