Madeline Eleanor (Suess) Midghall, 100, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025. Born in East Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Margaret (Shea) and Francis J. Suess.
Madeline graduated from the Rhode Island School of Nursing in 1945, then served as a Captain in the United States Army Nursing Corps until 1951.
Madeline married John Gerry Midghall in July of 1951, moved to Toronto, Canada for two years to care for Gerrys younger brother and sister, then moved to Springfield where she and Gerry lived for 62 years until Gerrys passing in 2013. Madeline then moved to Chestnut Knoll at Glenmeadow where she currently resided.
Madeline enjoyed playing bridge and tennis, watching golf, and going out to lunch with friends. She was a quiet yet extremely strong woman who touched many lives with her compassionate care as a nurse, friend, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She lived her life honoring simple values truth, respect, Prayer, kindness and consideration for all. Madeline had a strong faith in God which was exemplified in her treatment of others and gave her the ability to face any adversity that came her way.
Along with her parents and beloved husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Ellen Midghall, sister, Barbara Jarrow, and daughter-in-law, Lynn Midghall.
She will be deeply missed by her children, John G. Midghall, Jr. & wife Mary of East Longmeadow, Ann Marie Rome & husband Scott of Longmeadow, Robert F. Midghall of Agawam, and Michael J. Midghall of Portland, OR, 8 granddaughters, Meghan, Maureen, Jillian, Sara, Emily, Jenna, Taylor & Madison, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Her family wishes to thank the outstanding staff at Glenmeadow for the extraordinary care and affection Madeline received it was truly exceptional, and they feel blessed that their mother experienced such love and compassion these past few years.
Madelines Funeral Mass is Friday, January 24th, 8:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 221 Plumtree Road in Springfield, proceeding to her 10 a.m. burial with military honors at the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Church, or to a charity of ones choice.
