M. Madreen Evans passed away on May 22,2025 at Plymouth, MN at the age of 99. Madreen was born in Clearbrook, MN on December 9,1925 to John and Esther (Hasselton) Evans. At the age of two, the family moved to their farm in rural Fosston. She attended Country school near the farm. She graduated from Fosston High School in 1943. Madreen attended Teacher training in Warren MN from 1943-1944. She earned an Associate Degree in Education from Bemidji State in 1949. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from the U of MN in 1958 and her Master’s Degree from there in 1966.
Madreen taught in a country school for three years. She then taught in California for two years. She spent 26 years teaching in the Robbinsdale Public School District where she retired. She was nominated in 1971 for Teacher Of The Year and was recognized as a Teacher of Excellence in the search. She loved to encourage her school children and family members to do the best that they could do.
Madreen moved into Cornerstone Assisted living on July 13, 2018. This became her new family. She enjoyed the people and the sta that always treated her kindly. Her last days were made as pleasant as they could make them even though she was in pain. She had a good friend and prayer partner Terri that would check on Madreen and let us know how she was every day.
Madreen was a member of the Cornerstone Church in Plymouth, MN. She served as the librarian for many years. She also was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society.
Madreen was an avid reader and loved to impart her knowledge. She loved to travel and went to several countries on her travels. She also traveled the United States during her summers and after retirement. She kept a scrapbook for each adventure. She also loved to quilt and has beautiful quilts from that. She also did cross stitch in her spare time.
Madreen is preceded in death by her parents, John and Esther, her brothers Walton, Arlon, Winton and Bruce, Her Nephews Patrick and John Evans, niece Julie Borders, great niece Raina Evans.
She is survived by her nieces Kay (Harold) Williams Cape Coral FL, Ann Ferch, Menahga, MN, Bonnie Lund, Nicollet MN, Jayne (Gary) Mills Nevis, MN, Joan (Bill) Meyer, Wolf Lake MN, Wendy Francis Garrison MN, Jennifer Miller Nashville TN, and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service on July12, 2025 at 10:00 am at Rosehill Cemetery in Fosston, MN.
