Mrs. Mae Dean Hoover, age 95, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Alma, Arkansas. She was born on May 16, 1930, in Cherry Hill, Arkansas, to Millard Deramus and Dollie (Miller) Deramus.
Mrs. Mae Dean Hoover was a dutiful homemaker who took pride in taking care of the people she loved so dearly. She was an advocate for developmentally disabled adults and was instrumental in the founding of the Polk County Developmental Center where she served on the board for many years. Mae Dean was a founding member of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church where she played piano and sang in the choir. She was also a proud member of the Arkansas Master Gardeners Association.
Mrs. Mae Dean Hoover was preceded in death by her parents, Millard and Dollie Deramus; husbands, Kelly Simpson and J.C. Hoover; son, Harold Simpson; stepson, Chris Hoover; son-in-law, Mike Moore; daughter-in-law, Linda Simpson and by her siblings, Marion Bow, Betty Philpot, Jan Henry, and Dan Deramus.
She is survived by her daughter, Debby Gann and husband R.D.; stepson, Jack Simpson; stepdaughter, Cindy Moore; grandchildren, Rolana Lee and husband Shawn, Rochelle Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Madelyn Adair, Emery Lee, Avery Lee, Ava Jenkins, and Olivia Jenkins; siblings, Doyle Deramus, Randy Deramus, and Mary Ellen New; as well as by a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends too numerous to mention.
Mrs. Mae Dean Hoover was sent for cremation under the care of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. There will be a memorial service held on Friday, October 24th, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at the Highland Church and Cemetery. The family asks those who are able, to come at noon to have potluck lunch on the grounds, one of Mae Dean's favorite traditions at Highland.
