Mrs. Louise "Pretty Shane" Mae West Mitchell, 89, of Peoria, IL transitioned to her heavenly home at 12:15 am on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Cornerstone Rehabilitation Center in Peoria Heights, IL.
Mae was born on January 29, 1935 in Ullin, IL to Otis and Luella (Kerby) Mackins. She was a graduate of Love Joy High School in Mounds, IL.
She married Carleties Mitchell, Sr. on April 14, 1956 and to their union three children were born, Carleties "Carl" Mitchell, Jr., Natalie Adrena Mitchell and Charlene Denise Mitchell.
Mae always had a great work ethic. Before she and Carleties were married, she worked with Spiegel Catalog in Chicago, IL. Once they were married, she took great pride in being a homemaker for some years. She began working outside her home as a crossing guard while her children were still young. Once her children were of age, she began working at Wabco, making address labels. Later Mae realized she was astute with numbers and keen ability for calculations. She then began work for John Hancock Insurance Company as an underwriter and later worked for and retired from CILCO as an accounting executive after many years of service. Mae was a great fan of the Boston Celtics and the Chicago White Sox. In her spare time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, then later in her golden years, she found joy in word find books and watching game shows. She truly enjoyed and loved her family.
Mae leaves to cherish her precious memory one daughter, Charlene (Edward) Sidener and one sister, Lovie Cleary both of Peoria, IL; three grandchildren, LaTashia (Chen) Curtis, Shawda Sidener and Kanisha Williams; seven great grandchildren; Natalie, Aniya, Jumorion, Chen, Jr., "CJ", Marquis, Davyn and Kaysen; two great-great grandchildren, Psaint and Khamryn; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carleties Mitchell, Sr.; one son, Carleties Mitchell, Jr. and one daughter, Natalie Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Star of Hope Full Gospel Church with a visitation one-hour prior at 10 am. Rev. Lorenzo Cleary will officiate. Bishop Joseph Johnson will offer words of comfort to the family. Mae will be entombed at Swan Lake Mausoleum with her husband.

My favorite memories of my aunt Mae West are coming to her and Uncle Mitche´s house during Christmas time when and she´d always let me play on her piano. I´ll cherish the last time I seen her, a year ago at my granny (Lovie) birthday dinner. She was always so vibrant. Her voice is one I´ll never forget.
