Magdalen M. Metz, 85, died on June 13, 2024 at Brightview Senior Living in Norwalk, CT. Born on May 1, 1939, in New York City to the late Howard and Geraldine Metz, she was also predeceased by sister Ann-Marie Robinson, brother Philip Metz, and nephew Robert Robinson.
She obtained her undergraduate degree in 1960 and master's degree in 1969 in French language and literature from Hunter College. She would speak fondly of her two years living and studying French at the Sorbonne in Paris. After teaching French for several years, she moved to Millbrook, NY and began a career with the United States Post Office. At her retirement she was serving as Postmaster of Wingdale, NY. She was also active in her local chamber of commerce and Eastern Star chapter. Throughout her life, she was passionate about travel and family. She kept close contact with the Danish branch of the family.
She is survived by her loving nieces Kathleen Robinson, Eileen Carpeneto (Joseph), Mary Limov (Thomas), and Terry Robinson (widow of Robert). She is also survived by 4 grandnieces, 6 grandnephews, 10 great-grandnephews, and 3 great-grandnieces (with another soon to arrive).
The wake will be held on Wednesday June 19, 2024 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home at 104 Myrtle Avenue in Stamford, CT. The funeral will be held on Thursday June 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery at 342 South Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association.

Miss Metz taught French at our high school in Goshen, NY, for a year or two in the mid 1960's. She was noticeably chic and sophisticated, unusual for our little rural town. Quite a memorable person! Rest in peace, Miss Metz.
