Marc E. Boettcher, age 72, of North East, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at UPMC Hamot.
He was born on April 28, 1951 in Bottineau, North Dakota to the late Harold and Ruth (Hetland) Boettcher.
Marc always had a passion for learning. He graduated from Bottineau High School, attended the University of North Dakota and Minot State University where he graduated with a BA in Education.
He was formerly employed as a social studies and history teacher and basketball coach at Bottineau High School and Willow City High School for several years. In 1992 the wine industry brought him to North East where he became a principle owner of Arundel Cellars & Brewing Co.
Marc loved his students and his educational and coaching career. He took great pride in his students and teams. He enjoyed talking with people and getting to know their stories, watching western shows, listening to cowboy music, going to the movies, and dining at restaurants which he said was one of life's best luxuries.
Marc defeated cancer twice and received two transplants all while maintaining a positive attitude and a great appreciation for the medical staff.
His greatest loves of his life were his wife of 40 years, Lauri (Jore) Boettcher whom he married on July 21, 1983, his children, Chris Boettcher (Terra), Staci Wolden (Derek), Evan Boettcher (Liz), Anya Simao (Bruno), Alex Boettcher (Annyssa), and his grandchildren, Mac, Marit, Nash, Norah, and Thea.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Sharon Dunderland and brothers-in-law, Ellsworth Dunderland and Doug Moorhead.
He is survived by his brothers Gary Boettcher (Lynn) and Bruce Boettcher (Bonnie) and sister Marlene Moorhead, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marc will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Arundel Cellars & Brewing Co., 11727 E Main Rd, North East.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East. Please send condolences to elkinfh.com.
