Marcella McDermott Obituary

Published by Legacy from Jun. 24 to Jul. 2, 2025.
Marcella Rose McDermott, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 20th surrounded by her loving husband and family. Born in New York, November 17, 1929 she was the cherished daughter of John J. Conway and Marcella R. Miles.
On June 18, 1949, Marcie married the love of her life, Edward J. McDermott. They recently celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary. They had a total of 80 years of love shared with many red roses. Together they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, service, and unconditional love. Marcie was the devoted mother of eight children: Marcie Valdini (Al), Christine Magrane, Jeannie Pearl (Rick), Ginger Vestal (Michael Fex), Barbara Blair, Eddie McDermott (Amy), Jack McDermott, and Erin McDermott. Her legacy lives on through her 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her warmth, wisdom, and steady presence. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers John, William, and Robert; her sister Patricia; son-in-law Bill Vestal; grandson Jonathan Blair; and grandson in-law; David Letvak.
Marcie had a heart for service. She volunteered for many years at the skilled nursing home and, alongside her husband Ed, brought communion to homebound residents, offering both spiritual comfort and companionship. A woman of deep faith, she was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Teresians, and the Christian Hearts and Hands ministry. She attended daily mass for years, until she was no longer able.
Marcie was also an avid bridge player and loved her friends from her bridge club. But her greatest joy and calling was her family. Marcie devoted her life to caring for her eight children, and later generations of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent many summers at Olde Forest Swim Club, taking her grandchildren to swimming lessons, swim team practice, tennis lessons or just enjoying a day at the pool. Her home was a place of love, laughter, and unwavering support - the true center of the family.
Marcie's legacy of love, generosity, and quiet strength will live on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be conducted at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with the family receiving friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
